The M3d+it Conference – Medical 3D Printing and Innovative Technologies on 02.-.03.12.2021, will be an online event, where 30 eminent experts in the fields of medicine, additive manufacturing, materials, medical device design and simulation, and tissue engineering will present results from their current research and projects.

In the framework of the M3d+it conference, face-to-face meetings will be scheduled as video conferences. These pre-scheduled B2B meetings offer an ideal opportunity to find potential cooperation partners and establish interesting business and research contacts. Every participant selects his conversation partners individually and has 20 minutes to exchange about projects and products.

After a session dedicated to current EU projects related to the topic of regenerative medicine and 3D printing in medicine, there will be a networking event, to find synergies and common grounds for future collaborations.

Topic Group Name: “Robotics for Sustainability and Environmental Aspects”

Motivation

There is a lack of understanding, active research and definition on the aspect of Sustainability (social, ecological and economic) and the role of robotics. The EU commission is very much interested in pursuing the topics of Sustainable Development Goals and the European Green Deal, which is reflected in the Horizon Europe programme.

Exploiting robotics for sustainability can be done by making  robots  themselves  more  sustainable. Additionally, robots have skills such as strength, precision and sensing often surpassing those of humans. Combining the physical endurance of the robots with the cognitive flexibility of humans in a collaborative fashion is advantageous in different applications that enable sustainability and support environmental aspects.

With this as motivation, we would like to explore the interest of euRobotic member institutions in contributing to the topic group.

Activities of the Topic Group

The following activities are foreseen for contributing members:

  • The initial activities would include discussions and active participation in defining relevant aspects of Sustainability and Environmental aspects and what is the role of robotics in achieving them
  • In the long run, the topic group will create use cases and collect challenges
  • Representing the topic group by organizing workshop (E.g., @ ERF)
  • Contributing to the RoadMap for the EU Commission

How can you contribute?

The Topic group is open for all interested members from academia and industry alike who would like to contribute. Just send the topic group leaders an email to be included and receive more details.

The European Robotics Forum 2021 (ERF2021) will be held online 13-15 April 2021.

AIM and Scope

The workshop deals with the Human Robot Collaboration and AI for Sustainable Production. This workshop focuses on the aspect of collaborative robots for developing sustainable production mainly dealing with topics related to remanufacturing, recycling, true robot collaboration to ease workload on human workers. When considering production scenarios, efficiency and productivity of Human robot collaboration and its application were dealt with quite extensively. However, human robot collaboration and its application for a sustainable production has been dealt only marginally. This workshop with the ERF 2021 as its venue aims to open the dialogue between participants from industry and academia to discuss the current challenges pertaining to sustainability in Production, possible solutions with hybrid human robot collaborative teams to solve the challenges. The speakers (from industry and academia) will shed light on the existing challenges, detail success stories and pave way for the interactive discussion with the audience.

Expected Outcome:

  • Trigger information exchange between academia and industry about the current challenges and possible solutions for sustainable production with the help human robot collaboration
  • A position paper on the results of the workshop and share it, e.g., with the respective topic group/s. This will also form as a basis for the EU funded FELICE project to get stakeholder’s feedback

Invited Speakers:

  • Prof. Joachim Hertzberg, DFKI
  • Dr. Tuomas J Lukka, HipCode
  • Dr. Francesco Longo, CALTEK
  • Dr. Massimo Di Pardo CRF
  • Dr. Manolis Lourakis, FORTH

Organizers of the workshop:

The workshop is co-organized with in the FELICE project.
